Meet The Contestants

Image Singer Message Song
Image:ShakuntalaShinde.jpg Shakuntala Shinde I am an occupational Therapist. I’ve been in Pittsburgh for past 10 years. I sang informally @ parties, this is the first time I’m singing formally. Thanks to Taraana.com.I was very fond of singing & dancing from childhood, but never got the opportunity for formal training. I sang in the school programs & all the time @ home.I tried to imitate singers & learnt the fine nuances by just listening to songs. It really refreshed me. Nowadays with Karaoke music,it has increased my pleasure & convenience..I wish you all joy & luck. Dil Ko Hazar Baar
Image:NVH.jpg Nitin Hattangady Hello everyone!! I have lived in Pittsburgh for the past 11 years. An engineer by profession, I have dabbled in music for a while. I play the guitar and sing mostly Hindi songs. I really enjoy using Taranaa - its easy to use and great to practice and hone my singing skills. Good luck to all... Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas
Image:AnuMunshi.jpg Anuradha Munshi-Khandhar Hi everyone! I'm Anu and relatively new to Pittsburgh. I moved here from Ohio after getting married to my husband, Sameer, back in July 2006. I'm currently working as a critical care hospitalist physician at UPMC.

I have loved Hindi music and movies ever since I was a little girl growing up in Kashmir, India. After moving to USA at age 10, I tried my best not to lose touch with my culture and especially my passion for singing. I mostly enjoy listening to and singing Hindi music (be it Bollywood, Classic or Ghazals) in my car or at home when no one is listening. I occassionally sing at family get togethers as well but I had never tried Karaoke until this audition. If I had to pick one favorite artist, I would have to say Kishore Kumar - mostly because of his versatility as a singer, actor and comedian. His saddest songs brought tears to your eyes and his humor was brilliant! I could only hope to be a tenth as talented as he was.

I really look forward to enjoying the musical talent in Pittsburgh. Its the first real opportunity I've had to share my love for music with others. Taranaa is a wonderful opportunity especially for the young ones in our community. I wish I had had experiences that foster culture and talent like this when I was growing up in USA.

Image:AkshayHari.jpg Akshay Hari My name is Akshay and I am a 15 year old sophomore in West Allegheny High School in Pennsylvania. I started singing about a year ago, when I was watching SaReGaMaPa on Zee TV. Music has created an interest in me to learn Hindi, as I speak mostly English and some Tamil at home. Taranaa has given me the opportunity to share my voice with the rest of the world, with the wonderful karaoke tracks provided. My dream is to someday sing in a Bollywood film, wish me luck! Chaand Sifaarish

Image:VinitaBelambe.jpg Vinita Belambe Hi everyone, My name is Vinita. I've been living in Pittsburgh for the past 10 years. After working as a software developer for a few years, I decided to work as a full-time mom to take care of my two kids. I've learned classical music for 6 years when I was in India. I like to sing and listen to Hindi and Marathi songs, light Marathi music being my favorite. I would like to thank my parents who encouraged me to learn music in early childhood. I would also like to thank my husband who is my judge, for his continued support and encouragement. I can't thank my kids enough for being patient when I practice my songs. I'm very thankful to all my music loving friends in Pittsburgh who have been giving me opportunities to sing at family get-togethers. And last but not the least, I would like to thank Harshal and the Taranaa team for creating these wonderful karaoke tracks and for giving me the opportunity to sing in this contest. I wish all the participants good luck! Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Ye

We (mein aur mere dost) sing a lot during our parties, so I am sure Taraana will feature in most of those Neele Neele Ambar Par

Image:Parul.jpg Parul Nisha Hey...I am Parul, have been in Pittsburgh over five years and am finishing up my PhD in Biological Sciences @ CMU. I haven’t been very formally trained in any kind of music but have always kept in touch with light and semi-classical Hindi music through various platforms, the favorite being the highly charged cultural festivals of Delhi University. I have sung solo and organized many group performances at numerous cultural festivals back in India and am primarily inclined to singing Ghazals. I am always on a lookout for musically inclined people who would just get together on a lazy afternoon and sing/play for hours just for the fun of being surrounded by music. Thanks to Harshal and Taraana for providing us musically starved souls with another great platform. Good luck to everyone!! Dil Cheez Kya Hai

The team of Taraana is taking it to the next level! Kudos to them for all their efforts! Ye Jo Mohabaat Hai
